Education & Professional Development

  • College Relations Member : College Relations volunteers assist with coordinating activities with the student chapters, coordinate the student scholarship program, facilitate job shadowing and internships opportunities for the student chapters
  • LocalNet Volunteer : Coordinates the LocalNet online directory at www.gmashrm.org

 

Communications & Marketing

  • Compensation-Benefits Survey Coord. : Assist with publication of annual compensation survey and bi-annual benefits survey. One to two volunteers with strong organizational skills needed to serve as a liaison between the survey vendor and the committee. Requires the ability to commit to the survey process between March-September. Experience with compensation and benefits surveys is a plus.
  • Marketing-Communications Member : We have a variety of general committee member openings that are flexible based on your interest. Our committee welcomes your contribution, whether you have a marketing or communications background or you simply want to volunteer in some capacity for GMA SHRM. Some of the activities include coordinating the publication of of our annual Membership & Resource Directory, monthly newsletter; promoting and administering the Corporate Partnership program and other non-dues revenue sources; and developing press releases and responding to media requests for information. At minimum, the time commitment of a committee member for 1 1/2 hours at our monthly committee meetings.
  • Partner Liasion : Assist with administration of partner program and directory ads, including contacting current and potential partners and advertisers. The busy season for this position is the end of the calendar year. Communication with partners is throughout the year.
  • Media Relations : One to two volunteers with PR/media relations background are needed to develop and maintain contacts with the local media (WSJ, Cap Times, In Business Magazine, Business Watch, Wisconsin Woman, etc.). Responsibilities include developing press releases and responding to media requests for information from the membership.
  • HR In Touch Author : Write and edit articles, assist developing content. One to two volunteers with strong writing skills or background in journalism or communications are needed. Subject matter experts in HR-related areas are also needed.
  • Business Liasion : Develop relationships with member organizations, local area businesses, and Chambers’ of Commerce to promote GMA SHRM’s mission, products, and services.
  • Directory Coord. : Assist with publication of annual membership directory. One to two volunteers with strong organizational and editing skills and the ability to commit to a project in the latter half of the year.
  • Member Comm. Liaison : Develop and assist with member communications – Web content, e-mails, monthly meetings, newsletter. One to two volunteers needed with an interest or experience with corporate communications.
  • Governmental Affairs Liaison : Assist the Committee/Chapter in pursuing it’s Governmental Affairs mission of serving as an informational source to our members and to the community. Via the chapter newsletter, programming events, relationships with the Chambers of Commerce, and other communication vehicles, educate our members and the community on relevant legislative issues and how they can get involved.

 

Membership Interaction

  • Membership Chair : Chair
  • Outreach Liaison : Responsible for personal phone calls to new & existing members inviting them to upcoming programming events, calling members whose memberships have lapsed; encouraging renewal and accepting feedback from members who will not be renewing & sharing their feedback with the committee, and greeting members at monthly chapter meetings and other chapter events.
  • Volunteer Recognition : Responsible for coordinating with the Programming Chair the volunteer recognition event. Includes ordering the volunteer recognition gift.
  • Networking Coord. : Responsible for facilitating networking activities at monthly programming events and coordinating “after 5” social events.

 

Programming

  • Programming Member : Responsible for working with the membership survey to determine areas of interest and potential presenters, assisting with brainstorming sessions to plan the year’s programming scheduling, locating/contacting/securing presenters, assembling speaker profiles and program descriptions for program announcements, and introducing presenters. Working with the Chapter Administrator and other committees, members also coordinate publicity and logistical arrangements such as meals/refreshments/equipment/seating arrangements.
