Andrea will then lead a lively discussion of how your organization can build high performance teams that outperform their peers by adopting The Carrot Principle. The presentation concludes with specific examples and hints for leaders who are ready to get started on a recognition strategy or are looking to enhance their current recognition abilities.

Legislative Process 101 & How HR Can Influence It
*This session counts for 1.25 hours of strategic credit.
During this session, Attorney Kramer will take attendees through the basics of the legislative process – the stuff we all learned in high school but either haven’t had to use since then or just don’t remember it all. How a bill becomes a law is the fundamental process of legislative action, and it is important for every citizen to understand that process in order to be an informed advocate.
This session will break the process down to make it less overwhelming and show HR professionals how they can be heard and influence outcomes at the federal, state and local levels.
Additionally, Attorney Kramer will also cover the basic make-up of the law-making bodies at federal, state, and local levels and demonstrate how anyone can access legislative information, find out who their legislators are and track a piece of legislation.

Compensation Program Management in the New Economy
In a time of great economic uncertainty, the challenges of maintaining pay programs that balance internal equity, and external competitiveness has never been more important.
The past decade has seen the smallest merit pay budgets in history, and expectations for 2010 – 2011 indicate this trend will continue. When pay budgets are tight, maintaining an engaged workforce is more challenging than ever. Financial rewards are typically quite limited, and organization leaders are required to seek new, creative ways to motivate the workforce and keep employees engaged.
Our speaker will share his observations and insight about how Wisconsin employers are coping with these challenges today, and will share specific knowledge about the following topics of interest:
Aligning labor costs with economic realities;
Engaging Staff with limited resources; and
Aligning reward systems with Business strategy and performance metrics.
Finally, research has shown that most organizations do not attempt to measure return on investment (ROI) of incentive programs, and see them as a “cost”, rather than an investment. When the focus is on investment, however, leveraging the value of incentives enhances the organization’s ability to engage employees and motivate the workforce to achieve the goals of the organization.
In this session you will learn about recent changes in labor and employment laws, as well as significant administrative and judicial decisions over the last year. The session will focus on identifying strategies and practices for dealing with changes involving FMLA, COBRA, the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, and other state and federal employment laws. It will also review HR legal trends regarding the use of social media and other electronic workplace issues, and will touch on policies to address these issues.
In this session you will also learn about the status of pending state and federal legislation including the federal Employee Free Choice Act and other prominent legislation in the line of sight of the current federal administration.
The session is designed to provide an overview of the current landscape of labor and employment laws and give practical tips on how best to position your organization to deal with recent and anticipated changes in workplace laws.

This session will focus on specific, empirically-proven, approaches to improve employee satisfaction and engagement. Specifically, participants will learn:
How to design and put place an effective onboarding program that will generate high levels of satisfaction and engagement among new employees;
The key drivers of employee satisfaction in general; and
Putting in place systems and practices to maximize these key drivers.
