Presentation Description

September’s GMA SHRM Summit focuses on what’s hot in legal developments for HR professionals.  If you are looking to minimize your legal exposure with the office parties you hold or in the new legal developments of HR, you are encouraged to attend this in depth legal GMA SHRM Summit.

Presenter Bob Gregg will split his presentation into two valuable sessions: Office Parties: When Good Times Turn Bad.  What is the Employer’s Liability? and New Legal Topics for HR.

Office Parties:  When Good Times Turn Bad.  What is the Employer’s Liability?
Office parties are fun.  They boost morale.  They can also go over the line and result in company and personal liability.  Holiday parties have ended up in court on issues of drunken driving, assault and battery, sexual harassment, racial and even religious discrimination.

This session of the program explores “the line” between a good time and liability.  Do you know what your risks are and how to protect your company and yourself?  Attend NOW – in time to plan ahead for this year’s party season!

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will understand liability issues with office parties
  • Participants will learn how to minimize liability issues
  • Participants will learn how to coach management to act appropriately on behalf of their organizations

Hot Legal Topics for HR
Things are happening in HR law!  The DOL is issuing new FMLA regulations.  By September, the U.S. Supreme Court will have decided seven employment law cases, some radically changing aspects of liability and practice.  Congress is still at work on legislation.  Technology continues to result in new cases in workplace privacy and electronic records discovery.

This session of the program will cover the hottest of these newest developments and what HR professionals need to know.
