Breakfast Keynote: My Goldfish Died, Can I Take FMLA?

FMLA administration continues to be one of the most complicated issues for HR professionals. What qualifies as a serious health condition? How do you address intermittent leave issues, especially in regard to conditions such as depression? Are you properly dealing with substitution of paid leave? How can you both ensure your organization is complying with the FMLA and yet curb abuse of FMLA leave?

This presentation will address the latest decisions and "hot button" issues under the FMLA and will provide practical advice on how to deal with some of the stickiest FMLA issues. The FMLA is one law you can never know too much about--so come to this valuable update.

Morning Workshop: Swimming in the FMLA, Worker's Compensation and the ADA: Lifesaving Approaches for Your HR Department's Bermuda Triangle

As you know, a single workplace injury can create obligations under many laws, including the FMLA, Worker's compensation and the ADA. Many employers trip into legal trouble because they don't understand the interplay between these laws and what steps they should take in addressing an employee's lingering workplace injury.

In this workshop we will give a detailed overview of how these laws apply when a workplace injury occurs. We will also provide advice on how to effectively deal with these complicated situations from an HR perspective, including documentation, light duty jobs, and communication with physicians and employees.
