Workshop: Identity Theft: Will You Be the Next Victim?
Identity theft is now an epidemic in the United States; it is the fastest growing crime in America. It claims over 9 million victims every year in the U.S. - that's 19 new victims every minute! Over 1,100 per hour - 27,000 victims every day! The financial costs just in the U.S. are estimated to be over $53 billion last year. Worldwide costs are projected to be over $2 trillion by 2006.

Identity theft can occur at anytime; anyone can become a victim. The consequences are often devastating for the victim. Learn what Identity Theft is, how it is committed and how victims are left to fend for themselves. Learn what you can do to better protect yourself from this terrible crime and what to do if you, unfortunately, do become a victim. Discuss the new "FACT" Act and other issues that affect financial and other business entities.

What you will learn:
- Learn about this devastating crime and its impact on you, your employees, and your organization.
- Learn how an individual can protect their identity.
- Learn what HR professionals can do to help fight this crime.

Reception
Join your fellow GMA SHRM members for a chance to talk, exchange ideas and network outside of the office! Hors de oeuvres and soda will be served and cash bar available for this great opportunity to mingle with your peers and students from HR Programs at Madison, Platteville and Whitewater.

Panel Discussion
Each year GMA SHRM organizes a student networking night in conjunction with a regular monthly chapter meeting. This year students from UW-Whitewater, Madison, and Platteville along with other GMA-SHRM members will have the opportunity to listen to a panel of five human resource professionals offer their "HR expertise" as they address questions developed by the student chapters. Panelists have been chosen from various industries in the Madison area. This will be a great opportunity for students and professionals to network.
