October 2005

Wow! What a great start to a new fiscal year for GMA SHRM Chapter! September’s Wednesday in the Park session and the Sept. 20 th chapter meeting both had record attendance; we launched the new website; we are actively promoting the enhanced partnership program; and we have added three new members to the leadership team. All of this in our first month!

First of all, let me thank the Programming and Communication & Marketing committees for all the work they have done over the summer to make this great beginning a reality. During the summer and fall of each year these two committees are very busy, spending many hours planning and coordinating the great programs and services we all enjoy & benefit from throughout the year. In addition to very strong leadership from Anthony Dix, VP-Programming and Cassy Van Dyke, Director-Communications & Marketing, the committees have dedicated chairpersons and members that deserve a lot of credit. They continue to raise the bar on the quality of the programming and services they provide making each year more rewarding than the last. Kudos to all of them!

I also want to welcome the new board members: Elizabeth Hessel, Secretary/Treasurer, Marj Pieper, VP-Membership, and John Komosa, Director – Education & Development. We are excited about the contributions these new members bring to the chapter and appreciate their volunteer spirit. Even though they are new to the board, they are not new to the chapter. In fact, the Membership committee, under Marj’s leadership, is already at work planning the New Member Orientation program that will be held on October 13, 2005.

So what’s next? In addition to the continuation of quality programs and services our chapter is recognized for, we have some ambitious goals for this year. The 2005-2006 strategic objectives were identified during June’s strategic planning session and shared with the Board and Committee Chairs at the leadership breakfast on Sept. 9 th. We want to continually improve and are looking at innovative ways to do so. For more information about the strategic plan, click on this link.

It’s going to be an exciting year for the chapter and I’m happy to be a part of it! If you want to become an active part of our growth, I would encourage you to volunteer. There is an application out on the website under volunteer opportunities. Once you submit it a board member will get in touch with you to discuss your interests.
