ASTD Event - "Preventing Death By Lecture"

The South Central Wisconsin Chapter (SCWC) of American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) is hosting "Preventing Death By Lecture" on September 21, 2005. The session will be presented by Sharon Bowman, a professional speaker, author and teacher. For over 30 years she has worked with presenters to fine-tune their information-giving skills and with businesses that want to offer exceptional in-house training programs.

Annual Caregiver Forum & Exhibition - Discover Support and Hope

Save the date! On September 21, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. & September 22, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., the East Madison/Monona Coalition of Aging (EMMCA) is sponsoring it's annual Caregiver Forum & Exhibition. The forum will be held at the American Family Insurance Training Center, Madison from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Highlights include:

Wednesday, September 21:

  • An evening session with guest speaker, Leah Dobkin on: "Beginning the Dialog: Options for Solving Work/Life Issues for Employees and Managers"
  • Attorney Helen Marks Dicks of the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups' Elder Law Center on the stages of caregiving and getting your parents' affairs in order

Thursday, September 22:

  • An entire day of workshops, both for family caregivers and professional caregivers
  • Keynote address by Camille Wade Maurice: "Care for the Caregiver - The Delicate Balance: Caring for Self; Caring for Others" and "Shuffle, Shift and Swerve: Managing Changing Times in Health Care"
  • Workshop sessions focusing on such topics as elder abuse, professionals who can help, long distance caregiving, medication management, discovering adult day centers, and more
  • Exhibitors from various related organizations
  • Transportation and respite for caregivers and lunch will be provided.

Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Regional Conference

Hosted by the Minnesota Council for Quality, an organization with which we have collaborated before, this full-day event will focus on best practices of 10 world class organizations:

Advance registration (before September 8) is $445 ($495 regular). An additional $50 discount is available for faculty or for groups of five or more registering at the same time. A pre-conference workshop for Baldrige Beginners is planned for the afternoon of September 27; registration is $100 for those attending the conference ($150 for those who are not). Both events are at the Sheraton-Bloomington (formerly the Radisson South, Hwy 100 and 494). A block of rooms has been reserved at a special $129 rate, but register before September 6 to take advantage of the room discount.
