Monthly
Board Article: Its time to file the Chapter Achievement Plan for
2004!
By Belinda
Weber, President Elect
The Chapter
Achievement Plan (CAP) is an important reporting document that
is filed annually with National SHRM to share the successes of
our chapter during the calendar year 2004, as well as to communicate
the types of programs and services our chapter is offering our
members and the community we serve. The CAP allows SHRM to ensure
that the chapters are meeting or exceeding the guidelines for
affiliation. It also establishes eligibility for local funding
to the chapter. In past years, our chapter has earned the Superior
Merit Award recognition for exceeding the guidelines and we anticipate
continuing this honored tradition this year too!
In addition
to the national recognition, however, we also use the CAP for
strategic planning purposes. At the February 2005 Board meeting,
the GMA SHRM Board of Directors, along with the committee chairpersons,
will be conducting a semi-annual review of our 2004-2005 strategic
plans. This is our opportunity to ensure we are aligned with our
mission, vision, and values and are achieving the goals and initiatives
planned for the chapter. Prior to this meeting, Board members
will be discussing the progress made on the current committee
initiatives and will be sharing that information at this session.
To continue
the planning cycle, we will have a comprehensive strategic planning
session in June 2005 to develop future goals and initiatives for
the chapter as we start the next fiscal year. Invitations will
be sent to committee members, chairpersons, and the Board. If
this is something you would like to be involved in, please contact
any of the Board members, or myself. We want to include everyone
in this process to make the chapter better. Everyone's feedback,
ideas and suggestions are welcomed. After all, it's your chapter!
Volunteers
Needed for WI Student HR Conference & HR Games
The 2005 Wisconsin
Student HR Conference and HRGames will be taking place on February
25 and 26, 2005 at the beautiful UW-Oshkosh Campus in Oshkosh,

the conference.
HR Games
As always, volunteers are CRITICAL to make the HRGames a success.
For every 2 teams that compete, five (5) volunteers are necessary.
Last year, 14 teams competed in the Wisconsin HR Games. That created
a need for 35 volunteers. So, if you are interested in volunteering,
or know someone who is, please register!
The preliminary
rounds of the HRGames will be taking place on Friday, February
25 beginning at 6:00 P.M. The semi- and final rounds of the competition
will take place on Saturday afternoon February 26. The three-member
teams will compete in a "Jeopardy" style format against
other student chapter teams. For more information on the HRGames,
visit the SHRM student web page at http://www.shrm.org/students/hrgames.

Time Commitment:
The time commitment involved is a member's capacity to participate-we

Do you have an interest in writing for the HR InTouch? We have

experiences to educate others. 2) To become more connected in

advancement of GMA SHRM and the HR profession.
The first
step is for you to choose a submission option: you can pre-submit
an article to GMA SHRM at any time for us to use in any of the
upcoming newsletters, you can sign up to write for a particular
month, or we can put you on a list of people to contact in future
months whenever we need articles.
Article
Length:
Because the HR InTouch is now in an online format, the size is
flexible. The article should be engaging and hold readers' attention.
Include the core information in your article, and we will advise
if it is too lengthy.
Solicitation:
GMA SHRM conscious not to allow solicitation through the articles,
in an effort to protect the interests of our partners and members.
The nature of the article should be educational (i.e., what are
the business advantages of having a product like yours) or informational.
Otherwise, if you truly are interested in advertising through
the HR InTouch, you can work with our Marketing Committee. As
a rule of thumb for article writing, if the submission relates
to a for-profit event, or specifically markets your company (vs.
your industry), it is an advertisement, and should be purchased.
If it is a not-for-profit event that your company is hosting,
or an announcement (i.e., a SHRM member recently joined your company),
it is an acceptable addition to the HR InTouch content. If you
have any questions related to the appropriateness of your submission,
please contact us.
If you have
questions, or to submit an article, contact GMA SHRM at chapteradmin@gmashrm.org.
